Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Arriola.
Dan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We started off providing order fulfillment and direct mail for the commercial printing industry. We knew pretty quickly that long-term we were going to need to service the e-commerce industry and that “paper” related orders and direct mail were shrinking industries. We decided to start our “pivot” in the early 2000’s, it was painful because we had to learn a new industry, upgrade our team, and exit long-term partnerships. I remember in 2006 discussing our strategy with a much larger competitor in the direct mail industry and he thought I was nuts – today he’s out of business.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a fun ride but there’s always challenges. About five years ago I asked myself “do I have the right team in place to take this company to the next level? Sadly, I knew I had to make some tough calls on team members who had been with us for many years. It was a painful learning process but it was the best decision I’ve made in a longtime. Today, we have an amazing team and our company has expanded services, added clients, & improved margins.

ID Commerce + Logistics is an order fulfillment company focused on the middle market retail industry. We specialize in unique programs within e-commerce such as subscription, kitting, and support of multi-channel marketers. We have a very large portfolio of beauty care clients and love that vertical. I am most proud of two things – being recognized by our community as one of the Top Places to Work and the partnership we have with our clients. We have some amazing long-term clients who have trusted us with their business and we have grown together.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I want to continue to be recognized as a great place to work. I want team members to know that we want to foster their growth and development. We have some amazing clients that have grown with us and we want to be a part of their continued success. We are looking to expand and increase our participation in what I call the “Amazon ecosystem” which I feel is a great growth engine for IDC.
